Columbus Convention Center Drop-Off Zone Reinforced with Custom Lightweight Latex Modified Concrete

When the Columbus Convention Center needed a durable concrete solution for one of its busiest areas — a U-shaped drop-off zone that handles constant car and bus traffic — they turned to Modified Concrete Suppliers for expertise.

The challenge: deliver the strength of Latex Modified Concrete (LMC) while keeping the weight low enough to protect the structure underneath. Our team designed a custom lightweight LMC mix using specialized aggregate, bringing the unit weight down to just 116 lbs/CF — well under the 120 lbs/CF requirement.

Over the course of five placements, we applied 200 cubic yards of lightweight LMC at a depth of 4 inches to cover the entire U-shaped structure. This high-performance mix achieved 6,500 psi compressive strength in just 5 days, ensuring the surface could withstand daily traffic from both passenger vehicles and heavy buses.
